The Center for Molecular Oncology (CMO) is searching for a talented self-drivenSenior Computational Biologistwith a strong interest in developing and applying bioinformatics methods to problems in translational cancer biology.
The CMO promotes precision oncology through genomic analysis to guide the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients. We bring together clinicians and scientists throughout Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to conduct large-scale translational research involving molecular characterization of patient tumor specimens in order to identify correlations between genomic features and clinical outcomes.
Process and analyze data from high-throughput next-generation sequencing
Design, develop, and operate software and databases as part of bioinformatics data processing and analysis system
Responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation
Provide consultation and guidance to research scientists, as well as other bioinformatics and software engineers, at the Center
Train researchers in the use of computational and bioinformatics tools and develop training modules
Capable of building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions
A good decision-maker, with proven success at making timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward
Able to work effectively in an environment notable for complex, sometimes contradictory information
Consistently achieving results, even under tough circumstances

Master’s in biological science, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics or related discipline with a strong quantitative background and 2-4 years experience OR Ph.D. with 0-2 years experience
Experience working with large numbers of samples and modern workflow management frameworks (Snakemake, Cromwell/CWL/WDL, NextFlow, etc) running on either HPC systems (e.g. using LSF) or on cloud services (e.g. AWS or GPC)
Proficiency with scientific computing software (Python, R) and scripting languages
Research experience in statistical genetics/genomics strongly perferred and a familiarity with next-generation sequence data and analysis tools require
Highly motivated with excellent oral and written English communication skills; experierence in delivering oral scientific presentations and writing scientific articles strongly preferred.
