We are seeking an experienced project manager (Project Portfolio Manager) to support the work of the Senior Director of International Philanthropy and Principal Giving (Senior Director) at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Our purpose is to raise principal gifts in support of cancer research and care. The Project Portfolio Manager is an advocate and coordinator, assisting the Senior Director and institutional leadership in advancing the philanthropic and organizational strategies across the project life-cycle with a strong emphasis on implementation. You will work closely with organizational leadership, internal clients (e.g.physicians, scientists, their staffs), and individuals capable of making principal-level giftson behalf of the Senior Director, providingproject coordination, research, basic analysis, and executive-level operational support to secure seven- and eight-figure gifts for the Center from prospective donors around the world. The Project Portfolio Manager will exercise significant independent judgment and the utmost discretion in conducting a wide range of daily functions and activities, especially in managing communications with the Center leadership, physicians, scientists, their staffs,industry representatives, and most important,individuals capable of principal-level giftson behalf of the Senior Director.

Work collaboratively with the Senior Director and leadership to define project goals.
Communicate effectively with all levels of Center leadership and staff, which includes appropriately sharing confidential subject matter, andserve as primary point of contact for communication with institutional leaders, faculty, and administration regarding the projects assigned.
Lead project teams, monitor and facilitate work towards project delivery, lead meetings, set agendas and ensure meeting goals are accomplished.
Report on project progress at agreed milestones.
Initiate, develop, and disseminate correspondence to internal and external contacts on behalf of the Senior Director.
Work closely with leadership to plan and implement new program initiatives, and for assigned projects find opportunities to optimize work flow and enhance productivity.
Analyze research for the application of fundraising strategies.
Lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives.
Organize philanthropy data, initiate gift reports, and steward donor funds in collaboration with MSK leadership and managers responsible for the funds.
Obtain, organize, analyze and communicate data necessary for fulfilling project needs.
Make recommendations regarding project or program based on analysis of information. Recommend metrics to measure success for projects or programs.
Manage day-to-day prospect portfolio activities for complex initiatives with stakeholders from around the world.
Provide administrative management and serve as a resource to leadership within designated area.
Write and/or edit various documents, reports and presentations (i.e., meeting materials, minutes, divisional updates, project summaries, and progress reports) for assembly and dissemination to the appropriate parties. Develop content for presentations/slides as assigned by leadership. Prepare reports on assigned projects using database queries, literature searches, etc on behalf of assigned area.
Participate in the design and drafting of itineraries for global fundraising outreach.
Run multiple, global outreach projects concurrently.
Establish and maintain positive client relationships for implementation work, initiatives, and donor stewardship.
Demonstrate solution-oriented thinking in management of complex issues.
Under guidance of Director or Administrator, participate in the development of business and action plans for new initiatives. Identify and perform analyses to support program planning.
Monitor financial activity related to assigned areas. Conduct variance analyses between budget and actual spending for specific projects. Processes financial transactions (reimbursements, ordering, etc.) and maintains data to track related info.
Act on inquiries or problems on behalf of the project leadership, e.g., investigating the problem, gathering the necessary information, reaching out to the appropriate internal and external contacts, etc. and resolving independently when appropriate. Develop hypotheses, analyzes, validates, and presents findings to project leadership.
Escalate issues/concerns to project sponsor, while reporting on project progress at agreed milestones.
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in International Relations or similar, with 5-10 years of professional experience. Master’s Degree in writing or literature, business, or law preferred.
Senior development professional-level experienceor equivalent, including proven results in individual gift solicitationand familiarity with the international community;experience managing other development professionalsis desirable.
Outstanding communication abilities, both in writing and verbally, with individuals and groups of varying size.
The ability to develop, facilitate, and orchestrate effective communication with all members of the Center.
Advanced proficiency in use of computers and software such as database management, spreadsheet, word processing and graphics applications.
Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
Experience with change management
An interest in and understanding of international cultures is required
