The role of the Accession Assistant is to log incoming specimens which arrive to the Accession Desk into the pathology computer network; assist in the maintenance of quality control for reports and all data entry pertaining to patients' records.
Examines all information on requisition and specimen. Checks for accuracy and prepares for entry into Co-path system.
Enters patient data and specimen data information into the laboratory information system to assign the specimen to the correct patient.
Maintains up-to date records of pathology reports, slides and cases marked for quality assurance.
Uses correct telephone techniques and procedures when receiving and making calls to physicians and patients.
Performs appropriate quality controls activities to assure accuracy of data entered.
High School Diploma/GED. Bachelor's degree preferred.
2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
Data entry experience (prefer that experience is in a laboratory environment).
Hours of Work:
37.5 hours per week.
11am to 7pm shift
Rotate weekends (2-3 times per quarter)
