We are looking for a Research Technician or Senior Research Technician to provide technical support for the Structural Biology lab. The lab is interested in developing a new generation of optical imaging technologies to enable advances in two hitherto difficult-to-investigate areas: the real-time analysis of macromolecular interactions and motions at the nanometer scale in vivo and the three-dimensional architecture of complex molecular machines.

  • Adept at planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments with a keen eye for detail

  • Action oriented and eager to take on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm

  • Familiar with gene targeting techniques, preferably in mice

You will:

  • Prepare mammalian nuclear factors, including recombinant proteins produced in bacteria and insect cells, as well as native large macromolecular complexes from human cells

  • Assay purify proteins using in vitro transcription assays, native gel electrophoresis, DNAse I and permanganate footprinting

  • Design, clone, and assay constructs for various genes of interest using standard molecular and cell biology techniques (PCR, transformation, cloning, subcloning, DNA/RNA miniprep and maxiprep, Western and Northern blotting, etc.)

  • Be responsible for cell culture procedures, including large-scale growth of mammalian cells in suspension and of mouse embryonic stem cells

  • Ensure stocks of lab supplies are maintained, place orders as necessary, maintain lab equipment and perform other duties as assigned

You need:

  • BA/BS in biological sciences with a minimum of 1-3 years research experience. Master’s degree highly preferred.

  • Strong technical ability in molecular/cell biology and biochemistry required

  • Previous protein purification experience preferably with endogenous nuclear complexes#LI-SB1
