Research Technician / Senior Research Technician – Structural Biology
Job Posting Number: 11813
Research – Laboratory
January 12, 2017
At Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK), we’re not only changing the way we treat cancer, but also the way the world thinks about it. By working together and pushing forward with innovation and discovery, we’re driving excellence and improving outcomes.
For the 27th year, MSK has been named a top hospital for cancer by U.S. News & World Report. We are proud to be on Becker’s Healthcare list as one of the 150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare in 2016, as well as Glassdoor’s annual Employees’ Choice Awards 2017. We’re treating cancer, one patient at a time. Join us and make a difference every day.
The Pavletich lab is interested in the structural biology of pathways that are altered in cancer, with particular emphasis on pathways that control the growth and proliferation of the cell. In cancer, mutations and other alterations in these pathways lead to the uncoupling of cell growth from growth-regulatory signals and contribute to the unrestricted proliferation of the tumor cell.
In this role, the Research Technician or Senior Research Technician works with a postdoctoral associate on structural and biochemical studies of cancer-related proteins and protein complexes. Work involves the cloning, overexpression and purification of proteins from prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, and functional studies by in vitro biochemistry and by X-ray crystallography.
For Research Technician level, a Bachelor’s in Biology or closely related major with 0-3 years related experience.
For Senior Research Technician level, a Bachelor’s in Biology or closely related major with 3+ years related experience or Master’s with at least 1 year of related experience.
Knowledge of basic biochemistry and molecular biology methods required. Laboratory experience with protein purification, enzyme assay development, or eukaryotic cell culture preferred.
Hours: 9:00am – 5:00pm. Monday – Friday
