Job Details:

The Payroll Department at MSK is seeking a Payroll Tax Specialist to join their team.

Under general direction, you will analyze and administer all transactions that involve taxation for employees and nonemployees as follows:

  • Submit tax file from completed Payroll to ADP, audit results returned. Work with ADP to resolve differences.

  • Audit Federal and multiple State tax returns for withholding/unemployment and act as liaison with ADP as MSK adds employees in new states and localities.

  • Participate in unit and system regression testing focusing on tax impact of any changes to the system that might result in a change to calculation of taxable wages or tax calculations.

  • Determine taxation of additional payments due to employees/non employees such as reimbursements to employees, payments to independent contractors, beneficiaries and fellowships.

  • Research tax publications to determine whether there are new developments that affect the methodology used to pay employees in compliance with federal and state tax regulations.

  • Research state tax laws as they relate to telecommuting and/or other resident employees who work in New York State. Ensure that employees are set up for correct state and local income tax withholding.

  • Backup payroll staff in earnings, deductions and time capture.

  • Highly analytical and possess strong mathematical and problem solving skills.

  • Flexible and adapt well to rapid system changes

  • An exceptional communicator, possessing strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Comfortable stepping in for Payroll Supervisor or Production Specialist in his/her absence.

  • Able to train, advise and provide guidance to less senior staff.

  • Proficient working with a wide variety of payroll tasks simultaneously.

  • A patient person who enjoys working on a team.

You need:

  • A minimum of an Associates Degree with 5 years of payroll experience in large organization or equivalent hands on experience and knowledge of MSK payroll/hr operations (Bachelor’s Degree and CFP/CPP is preferred).

  • 4-5 years of advanced payroll knowledge including special attention to taxes and production.

  • An understanding of the big picture of payroll with a specialization in taxes.

  • An understanding of payroll dependencies.

  • Excellent time management skills, ability to work under daily pressure and to prioritize responsibilities so that all deadlines are met.

  • Advanced knowledge of various Human Resource functions (e.g., Compensation, Employment, Benefits) and how they interact with payroll.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook experience.

  • Experience with Workday preferred. Must be able to independently resolve problems related to job tasks.

  • Experience using JAT Software.

  • Experience with Nonresident Alien Taxation and familiarity with Windstar International Tax Navigator.
